If your wisdom teeth are causing pain or discomfort removal may be your best option.
Extracting wisdom teeth is a common enough dental procedure. It ranges from a straight forward extraction to a more complex surgical extraction—depending on how your wisdom teeth come through.
Why they’re called wisdom teeth
They are called wisdom teeth because they typically don’t come through until around the age of 17. Dental x-rays can detect if wisdom teeth are going to come through and how they are going to come through. Which means if necessary, they can be removed before any problems arise.
Extracting wisdom teeth
Not all wisdom teeth need to be extracted. If wisdom teeth erupt without complications, don’t cause pain or discomfort then—quite often—there is no need to remove teeth. However, with wisdom teeth which do cause discomfort, pain and/or overcrowding; extraction can be the best thing for your oral health.
